SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Plaza del ObradoiroSpaces combined with the mysterious halo, religious, romantic and cosmopolitan modernity in Obradoiro Square. The happy pilgrim discovers a stone city obscured by the passage of time and the persistent rain. The cathedral represents the culmination of the Way and in it lies the Apostle.

Detalle del Pórtico de la GloriaThe beautiful and sublime Portico of La Gloria, Romanesque building erected by Maestro Mateo and completed in 1188..

It is located on the facade Praterías. It is a filigranero set of three arches, the gifted center mullion, varied iconography taken from the Apocalypse of St. John.

WHAT TO SEE

  • Negreira. The population of Ponte Maceira is split into two parts, referring to the legend of the transfer of the body of the Apostle, which tells how, after the disciples passed, the bridge collapsed, dragging down the soldiers who pursued them. In the village they highlight the manor of Coton and the chapel of San Mauro, as well as the celebration every Sunday of the year with a carnival, going back to the eighteenth century.
  • Olveiroa. Petroglyphs of the Bronze Age megalithic dolmens and barrows. Dumbría is a land with a rich prehistoric history, and its remnants still remain.

OLVEIROA - MUXÍA

Gallo de BarcelosNear the village is the chapel of St. Lucia. The fountain at the entrance has "miraculous" properties for vision problems and is it normal, during the pilgrimage, to soak a handkerchief, rubbing your eyes with it, and tie it to one of the bars of the chapel.

Virgen de la Barca

Santuraio de la Virge de la BarcaThe first document that remains of this temple dates back to 1544, although the foundation of the first chapel, dedicated to the Virgin, has to be much older. The present church has a Latin crucifix, measuring 33 m. long by 19 wide, on the cross. Its style is baroque and has similarities with the other existing temples in Galicia.

  • San Martiño de Ozón: Make a stop to visit the fifth largest “horreo” of Galicia: 27 meters long
  • Muxía: With their cultural heritage, we include the parish church of Santa Maria and the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Barca, the epicenter of a popular pilgrimage, the most massive of Galicia. In Muxia still several types of dried fish are preserved and are the last to be found in the Costa da Morte.

MUXÍA - FISTERRA

Escudo de MuxíaNo document testifies the exact date of its foundation. It received the status of villa on 1345, and apparently its origin is linked to the monastery of San Xulián of Moraime and the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Barca.

Cabo Fisterra

Faro de FisterraIt was declared in 2007 as a European Heritage site. The lighthouse was built in 1853. The lighthouse tower, stone, is the octagonal base, and finishes in a mantel on which rests the balcony

Above is the dome with a polygonal lantern. The tower is 17 meters and its light, situated at 143 meters above sea level, reaches more than 30 nautical miles.

WHAT TO SEE

  • Corcubión: Declared a historic and artistic landmark in 1984. This bend in the Atlantic was inhabited by Celts who left their mark on the defensive fort of Mount Quenxe, a privileged viewpoint that controls the whole estuary.
  • Fisterra: The last portion of habitable land known for centuries. Where the sun sets and disappears behind the dark waters of the Atlantic. A scary scenario but also a peaceful home to fantastic creatures and monsters.
